What Is Your Hair Type - Straight, Wavy Or Curly?

Curly, wavy or straight: we all have different hair types. The way one hairstyle looks on one won't look the same on someone else, neither will it behave the same way. If we have fine, straight and thin hair, and give our hairdresser a photo with a haircut that was made from thick and wavy hair, the look probably won't be the same. Different hair styles might require different handling, too.
Why would you want to know your hair type better? Because if you what works for people with similar hair type to yours, it's easier to find a routine

that works for you too.

Straight hair can be pin straight, but also can have some very slight S-waves that give some volume.
It's often smooth and shiny, it can be relatively easy to detangle. Boar bristle brush works the best for those who have straight hair, it's not meant to remove tangles, but to distribute oil from the scalp and to make the hair softer.

Straight haired people are more likely to have greasy hair issues than curlies or wavies, simply because oil travels down more easily on straight hair. Shampoos for greasy hair are often too harsh and drying, thus make the scalp produce even more oil. It's better to choose a mild shampoo. If you want to stretch the time between washes, you can try dry shampoo (or as a more natural alternative corn starch for light, cocoa powder for dark hair).

Wavy hair has slight or more defined S-wave pattern.
Wavy hair is naturally voluminous and often looks thick, it usually holds styles better than straight hair.
People with wavy hair are likely to experience frizz due to humidity. It's important to

keep the hair moisturized with conditioner, and using a few drops of oil can help tame the frizz.

Curly hair has spiral curls that can range from loose to very tight in pattern (even with a Z-pattern).
Curly hair is difficult to detangle, and it's advised to use a wide toothed comb or just fingers instead of a hair brush.
Curlies often have to deal with dryness and frizz. Many moisturizing products are available, but you can also use oils to reduce frizz and add moisture to your hair. Just apply a few drops of oil (oilve, coconut, argan, mineral oil or whichever your hair prefers) - rub the oil between your palms and apply it on the hair.

Many curlies have success with the CO-wash method (conditioner only). This means that you use conditioner instead of shampoo to wash your hair, and also leave the conditioner on the length for a few minutes before rinsing it off. For washing the scalp it's best to choose a thin or runny conditioner that doesn't contain silicones (silicones can irritate the scalp or make the scalp hair greasy). On the length you can use a thicker, more moisturizing conditioner. CO-wash cleans and doesn't leave the hair dirty, but you will need to clarify with shampoo time to time to remove residue.
